Batch & Lot Tracking Software FAQs
Contact us today if you have more questions about how Batch Tracking can work for your business.
What is batch tracking software?
Batch tracking software enables businesses to assign batch (or lot) numbers to products, providing complete end-to-end visibility and traceability across inventory—from production through to distribution.
At what stage should I assign a batch (lot) number to my product / raw materials?
For every batch-tracked product, a batch number should be recorded as soon as the stock is received. When products are purchased through a purchase order, batch numbers can be added at the time of receipt. Batch numbers are also required when completing stock adjustments or conducting stocktakes, ensuring accurate tracking and full inventory traceability at all times.
How can I record batch numbers against a product?
With plan-it.pro, you can assign batch tracking numbers when products are first created. For existing products that do not yet have batch numbers, you can add them when batch tracking is enabled or import batch numbers directly in bulk.
Note: Batch tracking must be enabled in your company settings and activated within the product attributes for each item you wish to track by batch.
Do you offer an audit trail on batch number(s)
Yes, you can see a full transaction history of when the serial and batches were created, and when the products were sold, used, or adjusted as out of stock. You can also see customer and supplier information when the data is exported.
What other information can I attach to a batch number?
You can attach dedicated quantity and expiry date information to a batch number. In addition, you may also include other relevant data such as the production date, supplier or manufacturer details, storage conditions, location or warehouse identifiers, quality control status, and any relevant certification or compliance records. This added information helps improve traceability, stock management, and regulatory compliance, particularly in food, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing industries.
